Volume 1 Letter 51
From: Hazrat
Sheikh-ul-Hadith (May his secret be sanctified)
To: Hazrat Moulana
Yusuf Motala Sahib (May his lofty shadow be lengthened)
Date: 20th
Ramadhan-ul-Mubarak 1387/22nd December 1967
After the sunnah greeting, I intended writing you today, coincidentally upon commencement your correspondence arrived. In fact, I was proposing writing to Hafiz Qasim Sahib and sending the letter to your care and set a letter aside to this end. Dearest Abdur-Raheem apprised me verbally as to his religious state and it pleased me immensely. I was unapprised of his state at the time of your departure; otherwise, I would have sent the dates with you.
I dispatched a registered parcel by way of today’s post; contained are 20 pieces for Hafiz Muhammad Qasim Sahib, the remainder to be shared equally between you and Abdur-Raheem’s wife. You penned that you wait in fervent anticipation of my correspondence and there is disappointment at the negative response from the postman. Waiting for my correspondence during Ramadhan is in itself surprising. Not withstanding this, I fail to understand your sadness and disappointment, when contrary to convention I have sent you innumerable letters.
You penned of your aim to come directly after Ramadhan, personally, I would rather you did not. The climate here is not suited to you, not to mention that you are repeatedly ill. Certainly, it would have proved invaluable had your visit been possible during Ramadhan, however as fate would have it, you were in poor health this year and the last, which is most upsetting. After Ramadhan there will be nothing here by way of scholarly pursuit, may I suggest that until your passport can be arranged you acquire a placement in a madrassa there, and consider yourself fortunate even if it is unpaid. I recommend you do not visit on the grounds of your persistent ailing. In any case, Abdur-Raheem is himself preparing to come there. I continue to pray most sincerely on your behalf.
That is all. Salaam
Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Hadith Sahib
