In the Name of Allah, The Most Compassionate, The Most Merciful
Volume 1 Letter 5
From : Moulana Ismail Badat Sahib (May Allah lengthen his lofty shadow)
To : Hazrat Moulana Abdur-Raheem Motala Sahib
Date: Zi-Qa'dah 1384/March 1965
Dear Moulana Abdur-Raheem Sahib may Almighty Allah grant you increase in knowledge and deeds.
After the sunnah greetings, this sinner Ismail Badat is well and prays for you in the court of the Almighty and trust that you and all our friends are in good health.
My dear friend, I had received your letter sometime ago, but due to idleness and lack of time I was unable to reply thus far. I hope Hazratwala will forgive me. Excuses are accepted by the noble.
My friend, you had requested notes on Tirmidhi; this lowly servant did not promise anything but elected to remain silent. As you know already the aforesaid notes were copied from Ali Achhodi's notes and his scholarship is not extensive, hence there are a number of inaccuracies and lots of blank spaces, at the same time our respected teacher gave a great deal of commentary on Tirmidhi this year. Consequently, I do not consider it fitting to send it as it is. For these reasons I am spending my afternoon siesta (qaylulah) and part of the night in rectifying and improving them. Evidently, how can I possibly send them to you as they are.
My friend, with prayers from sincere friends like you and Hazrat Sheikh I am studying hard this year and keep vigil until the early hours going over my lessons. When this lowly servant requested Hazrat Sheikh for prayers at the commencement of the final year, he replied, ‘May Allah the Most Holy grant you the exoteric and esoteric knowledge of hadith.' Truly all my efforts are the result of prayers from Hazrat and friends like your good-self.
My friend, kindly pray for me and request Hazrat Sheikh for the same, that Allah grants me the strength to continue to study diligently and save me from futile deeds. I undoubtedly intend to come to Saharanpur , but at present I don't know when that will be. Yusuf is refusing and Shabbir Ingaar has not yet made a firm intention, as soon as Shabbir is ready we will come there, inshallah.
The reason I am hesitant to come to Saharanpur is owing to a lack of funds and I am very reluctant to ask for anymore money. I still owe 50 rupees for books I recently purchased; including the money for Lam'i (book). All my monies come from home and I'm unwilling to burden them with a further request. After all, one should not impose on the family too much; we must be fair when dealing with our kin . Nonetheless, I have half the funds to hand and with your dua I hope that Allah will make arrangements for the rest and accordingly present myself in service very soon, inshallah.
Moulana wishes to send his son to Hazrat Sheikh, therefore kindly ask Hazrat to make dua in this regard. Our lessons are continuing with great verve and I am really enjoying them.
We take lessons on the Muatta Malik with the principal at 11.00 a.m. after the morning session. Currently we are reading the fifth hadith of Bukhari Sharif, Hadith-e-Hirql, and Hazrat is giving considerable dictation. Kindly pray for me that during this final year Allah grants us the grace to study vigorously and to duly honour and respect our teachers.
Dear friend, my prescriptive prayers (mamulaat) remain incomplete day after day, especially my tasbeehaat. Pray that Allah grants me the strength to complete the prescriptive prayers with constancy. The zikr is completed regularly even if it means keeping awake ‘till 2.00 a.m.
In addition, please try and obtain the second volume of Bazhlul-Majhood (book) even if it's old or worn-out, but do try to locate one and inform me. What more can I write, brother I request that you remember me in yours prayers.
There is no news from the village, kindly request Hazrat Sheikh to make dua for the same. If I go home after Eid-ul-Adha I intend to deliver lectures. Pray that Allah make it easy for me and I am able convey to the people what is beneficial. Lastly Abdur-Raheem Maleek has left his job in Mowsali.
Consider me in your prayers and give my salutation to Hazrat Sheikh and ask him to pray for me. Communicate my salaams to Moulana Muhammad Yunus Sahib, Moulana Muhammad Hashim Jugwari, Moulana Gulam Muhammad Sahib Tarkesari and Moulana Ismail Sahib Kacholwi and others; ask them to make dua on my behalf. Moulana Hashim Bhathay, Abdul-Qadir Rounwala and the rest are sending salutations and are requesting you pray for them.
My friend you requested the money for Lam'i earlier than agreed whereas there was an assurance of at least one month. You also failed to inform me whether you received the money, never mind I suppose these things happen.
That is all, Salaam
Sinner Ismail-bin-Ibrahim Badat
To: Moulana Gulam Muhammad Sahib Tarkesari :
Respected Moulana Gulam Muhammad Tarkesari Sahib, after the sunnah greetings, unworthy Ismail is well and prays for your health in the divine court of the Almighty. My friend, I have not received any information about how you are as you have not written to me, what is the matter, if it is something I have done then accept my apologies. In addition, I have been delayed repaying your money due to some unforeseen expenses; consequently I have been unable to send it.
I found some books that I needed which were on sale, therefore I bought 50 rupees worth; as a result I have been unable to send you your money, thus forgive me.
Currently this sinner is trying to make arrangements to make his way to Saharanpur during leave; if I succeed then I will hand over your money to you personally. I have accumulated some funds; kindly pray that Allah creates some avenue for me from his unseen treasures, and pray that I realize my aspiration.
Remember me in your prayers and ask friends and acquaintances to do likewise.
That is all, Salaam
In need of your prayers
Ismail Badat Narolwi.
