Volume 1 Letter 137

From: Hazrat Moulana Abdur-Raheem Motala Sahib (May his lofty shadow be lengthened)

To: Hazrat Moulana Yusuf Motala Sahib (May his lofty shadow be lengthened)

Date: 18 th Safar 1389/5 th May 1969

Dearly respected and honourable brother

After the sunnah greeting, I hope this letter reaches you in good spirits. This contemptible one arrived on 29 th April at Jeddah, shortly before the Maghrib prayers. The Isha prayers were offered at Hudaybiah, to arrive in Makkah soon thereafter. Tomorrow, 5 th May, I intend to travel to Medina for a period of two weeks, inshallah. Kindly beseech Almighty Allah to permit me, through his grace and favour, to present myself with due courtesy and reverence. I made circumambulations on your behalf and supplications were made for you whilst clinging on to the Multazam and grasping the cloth of the Kabah, perhaps more than were said for myself. May Almighty Allah accede to and accept them.

Assuming you acknowledge this letter forthwith, kindly address it to Sufi Iqbal Sahib at Medina Munawwarah, where, by the same token, there will be no shortage of salutations and blessings to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) on your behalf, inshallah. Do continue to inform me as to your wife’s condition. Your letter was received during my stopover in Bombay and I acknowledged it from there, I trust you received it. Hazrat consigned a selection of fresh and dry dates from Medina Munawwarah, along with some almonds and a small drum of Zam-Zam. Kindly write to inform me upon their receipt. I proposed sending the Zam-Zam myself, but Hazrat declined and instructed me to send it on his behalf, and was duly sent.

You will undoubtedly acquaint yourself with Hazrat’s daily schedule by way of Molvi Jallad Sahib. This lowly one has not a moment’s respite, hence only the one card to Naroli. If you happen to write, kindly apprise them of my well-being, and subsequent to communicating my sunnah greeting, inform them that I offer supplications on their behalf and that I have no time for correspondence. Further, If I can trouble you to write a letter to mother, I will be most grateful. Consider me in your supplications.

That is all. Salaam

The lowest of creatures

Humble Abdur-Raheem
