Volume 1 letter 101
From: Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Hadith Sahib (May his secret be sanctified)

Dearest Molvi Abdur-Raheem and Yusuf
After the sunnah greeting, on Wednesday I received the two cards dearest Abdur-Raheem posted on Monday, one dispatched before and one after the ship arrived. Presently I have forwarded a response to the home address. Today, Thursday afternoon, I took receipt of your timely letter. I am pleased that dearest Yusuf’s hand is not sore. God willing the bone has not displaced and it heals quickly and completely.
I had raised it with Abdur-Raheem upon his departure and reminded him in numerous letters to send a telegram to London. I had intended to send a telegram from here, but reconsidered thinking you might have sent one already. I appreciate how enthusiastic you both are in wanting to return, rather, without exaggerating or overstating it, I too am equally as enthusiastic, but the situation cannot be helped. The reason I repeatedly turn down your requests to come here is the bitter cold and lack of medical facilities.
I received the heater dearest Yusuf so kindly gifted. May Almighty Allah accord him the best of rewards in both the worlds; however, I did not like it whatsoever. There exists an inherent affinity toward things, the simple villager that I am means I have no regard for these fancy items. Last year Dr. Ismail sent a large heater by ship, again to no purpose; and it weighs on me.
For an impoverished fellow like me the best gift is that which will abide with me, nevertheless, if you must send material items, then only money, as it can be utilized universally. Kindly bear this in mind in future. Do not send any more gifts for me in future, if you must send something then only send monies.
I expect dearest Muhammad to have departed before this letter, and that dearest Yusuf has written a letter of reassurance to his wife. I hope he has taken the Medinite dates with him. There are correspondences arriving constantly for both of you, if you are staying on then I will forward them to you by registered post.
That is all. Salaam
Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Hadith Sahib
