There are five pillars in Islam: Shaadah, Salat, Fasting, Zakat and Hajj.
In performing these different forms of worship of Allah Ta’ala there
are fixed times, certain limitations or specific circumstance. Allah
Ta’ala has fixed the amount of obligatory prayers. Obligatory fasting is
only in the month of Ramadhan, Zakat is paid once a year and Hajj is compulsory
once a lifetime and that is if all the conditions are found. However for
the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala there is no place and no time restricted
to do this, it can be done sitting down, standing up, lying down, walking,
running, when your ill, healthy, day and night, whatever the time and place.
In the Holy Quran Allah Ta’ala says,
“O you believe, let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah, and whosoever does that, then they are the losers.”
It is also mentioned in a hadith that Allah Ta’ala says whosoever remember me in his heart I remember him in my heart and whoever remembers me in a gathering then I remember him in such a gathering which is far more superior to his gathering, and that is in the gathering of the angels.
There is a famous incident where Hadhrat Ali narrated that Hadhrat Fatima a had very visible marks on the palm of her hand due to the amount of grinding she did herself, and at that time she knew that the Prophet Muhammad had prisoners of war. So she went to him regarding these prisoners so she may take one as a servant, however the Holy Prophet wasn’t at home, so she left a message with Hazrat Aisha to be passed on to the Prophet . The Prophet went straight to their house on hearing this. When he reached there he sat between them i.e Hadrath Ali and Hadrat Fatima and said:
“Let me tell you something better that asking for a servant, when you lie down in your bed recite the follwing;
Subhanallh 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times and Allahuakbar 34 times, this is indeed better for you than a servant.”
It has also been said that whosoever recites these before going to sleep he will never feel lazy or tired. This hadeeth teaches us to be patient in facing the hardships of life just as the Holy Prophet advised his own daughter.
It is also reported in a hadith that the Holy Prophet told Hadhrat Ma’aaz bin Jabal to make the following supplication after every salaah:
“O Allah enable me to remember you, thank you and worship you in the best possible way.”
We pray to Allah to enable us to remember him in the best possible way.
Ameen
